Email Signup Best Practices: A Great Example

Hats off to Great Garden Plants for a super job on their email signup forms. On the navigation that appears on every page, their signup form follows several best practices. Beneath the “Free E-Mail Newsletter” headline with a bright red “Subscribe” button is the following box:

Among the things the signup box has going for it are:

• It appears prominently at the top of every navigation panel
• The bright colors attract attention
• Bulleted copy makes for easy reading
• It spells out what subscribers will receive
• Two incentives (a free daylily and a $5 coupon) are offered

When you click on the button that invites you to subscribe, you’re taken to a subscription page that follows more best practices:

• Additional benefits are spelled out in bulleted copy
• A picture of the free daylily subscribers receive is shown
• A link to the privacy policy is included
• You’re told to expect a confirmation email
• Subscribers are reminded to add Great Garden Plant’s email address to their white list

Nice work, Great Garden Plants!
