An Easy Way to Get More Customer Product Reviews

Here’s a suggestion for generating more customer product reviews: About a month after you ship product to a customer, send an event-triggered email asking if they were pleased with their purchase. Solicit comments, good and bad – and invite your customer to post them as a product review on your website.

    I’d like to hear more about the mechanics of such an automated system.

    I love the idea, but how would I technically make it work?

    What program or service would I use to do that?

    Enjoyed your other post about using reviews. Have you noticed that Gardeners.com has suddenly turned into the master of using this approach over the past couple of months? They are online / mail order / direct marketing / business / gardening geniuses.

    Any mail order gardening company should aspire to be as good as they are.

      I’m not the best one to give advice on what service to use, but here are two you might look into: http://www.exacttarget.com and http://www.eightbyeight.com.

      Another resource might be Fit for Commerce, a company that helps online retailers figure out what technology they need and where to find it. They provide consulting services and have an online database (available by subscription) of suppliers, product reviews and other information. I intend to blog about it after I find out a bit more.

      I suppose one work-around you might use to test the waters is to pull a list of everyone who ordered one to two months ago and send a generic email thanking them for their purchase and inviting product reviews.
